The team claimed their fifth consecutive, and seventh overall, AfroBasket title with a 78–64 victory over Mali in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, extending their unbeaten streak since 2017 and confirming their dominance in African women’s basketball. 

Nigeria Secures Fifth Straight FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Title; South Sudan Wins First-ever Bronze

By securing victory, Nigeria qualified for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Berlin, Germany. Mali, together with South Sudan and Senegal, will participate in the qualification tournaments next March for an opportunity to join them. 

Tinubu Backs D’Tigress to Win AfroBasket Final 

The D’Tigress advanced to the final following a closely contested 75–68 win over Senegal in Saturday’s semi-final. This victory also earned them qualification for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup qualifiers, buttressing the efforts of the Ahmadu Musa Kida-led NBBF in establishing Nigeria's soft power through sports.
