Recognizing the untapped potential of the women’s game, Kida prioritized investment in D’Tigress, focusing on grassroots development, international exposure, improved welfare for athletes, and the appointment of world-class coaching staff. These foundational reforms laid the groundwork for what would become a historic run of achievements for Nigeria’s female basketball team. 

Tinubu Showers D’Tigress with $100,000 and National Awards Each 

The team claimed their fifth consecutive, and seventh overall, AfroBasket title with a 78–64 victory over Mali in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, extending their unbeaten streak since 2017 and confirming their dominance in African women’s basketball. 

Nigeria Secures Fifth Straight FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Title; South Sudan Wins First-ever Bronze

By securing victory, Nigeria qualified for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Berlin, Germany. Mali, together with South Sudan and Senegal, will participate in the qualification tournaments next March for an opportunity to join them.
