Barcelona, the La Liga champion, was placed in the same group as Chelsea and reigning champion Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), along with five other teams, for the league phase of the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League. The draw took place at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco on Thursday.
Barcelona’s UCL league phase opponents are: Paris Saint-Germain, Eintracht Frankfurt, Club Brugge, Slavia Praha, FC Copenhagen, Newcastle United, and Olympiakos.
Barcelona has won the Champions League five times, most recently in 2014-15 under Louis Enrique, now PSG manager.
In the prior edition of the continental tournament, Barcelona was eliminated in the semifinals by Inter Milan, with Davide Frattesi scoring during extra time to secure the Serie A team’s place in the final.
Chelsea has won the Champions League twice, most recently four years ago under then-manager Thomas Tuchel, now England manager.
Chelsea and Barcelona have played 14 Champions League matches, each winning eight times and drawing six.
According to the revised format, now in its second season, Barcelona is scheduled to play eight matches against the eight different opponents, with four games at home and four away.
The eight highest-ranked teams from the overall league phase will advance to the Round of 16, while those finishing between 9th and 24th place will participate in the playoffs.
