UEFA Nations League: Spain Beat England 2-0

Spain, the reigning UEFA Women’s Nations League champions, overcame a one-goal deficit to defeat England 2-1 on Tuesday. Clàudia Pina came off the bench and scored twice, securing Spain’s place in the semi-finals.

Germany and France won Groups 1 and 2, respectively. Spain, the world champions, and England, the European champions, faced off to decide their group. Sweden and Denmark played a decisive match in Stockholm shortly after.

“We have finished top of a group which also included England, a top team, and Portugal and Belgium,” Spain coach Montse Tomé told reporters.

“We saw the best Spain in some games, others showed we have things to improve, but that’s part of being art top level.

“Overall, the players done great job and happy with this international window.”

From the beginning of the match, Spain applied significant pressure, with striker Esther González compelling England goalkeeper Hannah Hampton to make an exceptional save early on. The England defense found it challenging to manage the hosts’ precise passing and fluid movement.

Alessia Russo provided the visitors with an unexpected lead in the 22nd minute. As the Spanish team appealed for a free kick, believing Salma Paralluelo had been fouled, Keira Walsh delivered a through ball to Russo, who subsequently scored with a well-executed finish.

After conceding the goal, the hosts maintained possession but generated few significant scoring opportunities until Pina joined the game in the 58th minute. She scored less than two minutes later by sending a shot past Hampton and into the net as England lost possession while attempting to play out from the back.

As Euro 2025 approaches, 23-year-old Pina secured her starting spot with a stunning goal 10 minutes later, leaving Hampton helpless. The victory advanced Spain to 15 points from six games, five ahead of England.

“Since she returned to national team again [in November] she has contributed goals,” Tomé said of Pina.

“That’s what she’s added. She is top quality. Maybe she had not had so many minutes with the senior team before November, but since returning she has been important.

“This year she’s taken a big step forward with her club and you can see that.”

Commenting on the result, England captain Leah Williamson stated that there is work for her team to do ahead of the Euros.

“We didn’t have any real threat. Under that much pressure against the top sides, that’s what happens. We just have to be better on the ball and find solutions quicker. A great lesson,” she said.

“We know what we are capable of. The game changes constantly, we have to adapt a bit quicker. We have time to build and time to push ourselves before the start of the tournament.”

We Are Better Together: A Caution to the Advocates of Separation

It must first be clearly stated that the North’s preference for Nigerian unity is not because it is incapable of standing on its own, nor because it is uniquely dependent on the present federal arrangement for its existence. Historically, the North demonstrated a strong capacity for political cohesion and governance under the regional system, where the Caliphate produced the Premier and the Sultanate provided the Governor. With a vast, geographically contiguous landmass, a dominant lingua franca and largely shared religious and cultural frameworks, a substantial part of Northern Nigeria has historically functioned as a coherent political space.

PDP Disputes Ibadan Court, Affirms NWC Validity

The PDP chairman noted that the Ibadan ruling was only one of several judgments of the Federal High Court on the matter and that the core issues were already before the Court of Appeal. He described the decision as “technically academic” pending an authoritative pronouncement by the appellate court. Turaki reassured party members that the National Working Committee produced by the Ibadan Convention remained “legally intact and firmly in place,” and committed to what he described as the party’s ongoing rebirth.

A Setback for Wike in PDP Crisis

While the Supreme Court’s earlier intervention briefly revived Anyanwu’s standing, Tuesday’s dismissal signals that legal victories alone may no longer be enough to secure long-term control. The struggle within the PDP is increasingly shifting from courtrooms to internal political negotiations, and in that arena, the momentum appears to be slipping away from the Wike camp.

No Terrorists Were Killed in U.S. Strike on ‘ISIS’ in Nigeria

Abu Jabo dismissed reports that terrorists were killed in the strike, stressing that Jabo has no history of insurgency or bandit activity. “There are no terrorists here. There are no Christians here either. Jabo is a peaceful, Muslim community. We do not have security problems,” he added. Local sources also dispute claims that the area harbors ISIS-linked elements, describing Jabo as a quiet farming settlement with no record of extremist activity.

Trump: U.S. Hit Terror Targets in Nigeria

In a strongly worded statement posted on his verified social media account, Trump said the United States, acting under his direction as Commander-in-Chief, had launched “powerful and deadly” strikes against what he described as ISIS-linked terrorists operating in Northwest Nigeria. He claimed the operation was in response to the killing of Christians and warned of further military action if such attacks continued.

NNPC Limited: Early Signals from the Kida–Ojulari Era

As a non-executive chairman with decades of industry experience, Engr. Kida’s influence lies less in operational detail and more in direction-setting and discipline. The reconstituted board signals a renewed emphasis on corporate governance, professionalism and alignment with the spirit of the PIA, that NNPC Limited should operate as a business, not a government department.
